Farham “Ronny” Ahmed, one of three people injured Thursday when a gunman opened fire at FSU’s Strozier Library, was shot three times, including once in the spine, leaving him paralyzed from the waist down.
His sister, Farhana Ahmed, said during a news conference Monday at Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare that her 21-year-old brother was studying for final exams the night of the shooting. He was studying biomedical engineering and set to graduate in about a year and a half.
"Ronny … immediately knew that something was wrong because one of the bullets, one of the first bullets, struck his spine," she said.
Ahmed’s condition has been upgraded at TMH from critical to serious. The hospital issued a news release saying that one of the bullets severely damaged his spinal cord and that his physicians expect him to be paralyzed from the waist down.
“But despite his injuries, he’s alive,” she said. “And we’re so grateful that he’s here with us.”
Please help fellow Seminole Ronny Ahmed on his journey to recovery. Ronny was tragically shot three times on November 20th in front of Strozier Library on FSU’s campus. He has been critically injured and remains in the ICU at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. Ronny was the first student shot but, despite his wounds, was able to alert authorities in time for them to subdue his attacker. Ronny has sustained a serious injury to his spinal cord in addition to his arm and chest. He continues to hold strong in the ICU but has been paralyzed from the waist down; unfortunately, he is not expected to walk again.
We are trying to set up a medical trust to support his family with medical expenses and long term care. Please help with anything you can. Thanks for your kindness, generosity, and prayers.
**If site is down or you would like to send a check or other form of contribution, please send a note to fsuronny@gmail.com for details.**
**For those asking for verification of this fundraiser, we’ve spoken with both youcaring.com and Ronny’s family, who confirmed this is authentic at a press conference held on Monday, November 24th.**
**Given the outpouring of support that has allowed us to come close to our original goal, we’ve now increased our target in the hopes of covering more medical and long-term care costs for the family.**
